Journalism Jump Start June 20-24, 2005

Jump start your high school newspaper or yearbook.
Join us at Northwest College this summer for a workshop in journalism, photography and graphic design.
In four days, hone your reporting, writing, photojournalism, layout and design ability. You’ll spend a full day brushing up and expanding your skills. Then you’ll cover stories, ultimately producing a small newspaper printed on the final day of the workshop to add to your portfolio.

Come with basic writing, photography and computer skills. We’ll work on Macintosh computers to write, design and lay out the paper as well as scan photographic negatives and use the Nikon D100 or Canon 10D digital camera. You’ll learn more about Photoshop and desktop publishing programs.
We have added new information on yearbooks as well as a class for advisers seeking a journalism endorsement on their Wyoming teaching certificates. A separate fee and signup is required for the endorsement class. Contact Dennis Davis for more information.

We encourage core staff members and advisers for yearbooks and newspapers to attend to prepare for next school year’s publications. Advisers who bring four or more staff members attend free of charge.
Advisers may also sign up for a three-credit undergraduate class as part of NWC’s journalism endorsement program.

Cost totals $140 per participant (not including tuition for the credit class), which includes room in Northwest College residence halls, meals in the NWC dining hall, transportation during the workshop, 10 copies of the newspaper we produce and a workshop T-shirt. Photography participants must supply their own film and camera if not using one of our digital cameras. Participants living in the local area who don’t require meals and lodging pay only $30.
A $30 non-refundable deposit is due by June 1. The balance is due no later than June 14.
