Dennis Davis, journalism instructor

Now in his eighth year of teaching full-time at Northwest College, Dennis Davis previously worked as a reporter, photographer and editor at the Gillette News-Record, the Casper Star-Tribune and Powell Tribune. His work has appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, London Economist, Backpacker, Western Horseman, Women Outside and a variety of agriculture publications.

Photography professor Gary Bakken has accused Davis of a previous career as a bagpipe repairman, a profession that Davis chooses not to discuss at length, feeling that it diverts attention from his current pursuits. Davis would like to point out that Bakken is equally circumspect in discussing his own career as a haddock skinner, an occupation that took him to the outer reaches of the Grand Banks and other adventures on the high seas befitting his Norwegian heritage. Bakken remains typically demure about these pursuits, but informed sources say, "Nobody could skin a haddock like Bakken. He's got it in his genes."
