Students arrived at Northwest College Friday, Aug. 26 through Sunday, Aug. 28 with cars, vans and trucks full of personal belongings of new freshman and returning sophomores.

Moving in was not the only activity available for students, thus Kick-off Weekend, hosted by the Activities Office and Residential Life.

Kick-Off Weekend consisted of different activities for new and returning students to partake in. Activities such as whitewater Rafting trips, “Northwest Passages” skit, a comedy show featuring Josh Blue, giant inflatable games and a dance filled the three-day event.

Also a part of the weekend was the Trapper Challenge low ropes course, a series of group activities that called for students to get to know each other though challenges that called for communication and teamwork.

Director of Residence and Campus Life Dee Havig said that the numbers in attendance at the low ropes course decreased this year but were justified by the higher temperatures.

Outback adventure was another activity led by Activities Board Director Mike Taylor. The activity aimed to teach students about various parts of Australian culture. Taylor and other members of the activities board demonstrated how to use a didgeridoo, an Australian instrument, how to throw spears and boomerangs and other activities.

Through the course of the weekend the majority of the students living on campus moved into the halls and got ready for classes to start Monday, Aug. 29. According to Havig, 489 students are living in the halls and 88 living in the Trapper Apartments, West and Main.
