Christmas in downtown Powell

n Northwest College’s Block and Bridle Club won the grand prize in the lighted parade Saturday, Dec. 3. Its “Cowboy Campfire Christmas” float portrayed the overall theme of the parade, “An Old Fashioned Christmas.” Members riding on the float twirled lassos and reflected how cowboys celebrated the holidays back in the good ‘ol days.

Christmas lights illuminated the downtown streets of Powell Saturday night Dec. 3.

In the freezing cold weather, onlookers enjoyed the many festive floats lighting up the night sky.

Powell’s Chamber of Commerce sponsored this annual Christmas tradition. Each year the Chamber awards two prizes in each of five different categories.

The Northwest College Block and Bridle Club balanced on hay bales while belting out Christmas songs in matching jackets and cowboy hats. Block and Bridle impressed the judges and were awarded the overall grand prize of the Christmas parade.

In the civic organization category, the Powell Girl Scouts received first place while the Lions Club placed second.

The Powell High School Band took first place in the bands, choirs and marching units category. Jacey Lucus, a student at NWC, led Stomp & Company, a clogging group, to a second place.

First place in the lighted equipment category was awarded to Powell Valley Miniature Horses, and second went to Dog Grooming by Pam.

The Powell Tribune took home a first place in the commercial business category, while On Your Toes Dance School came in second.
