On Jan. 13, Northwest College students attending the Cody campus started a fresh semester at a new location.
Additional space was leased from Park County in the Marathon Building at 1501 Stampede Ave. to provide more classrooms to accommodate the growing demand of students wishing to enroll at the Cody campus.
As it was, the previous campus building had three classrooms with the smaller two holding 12 students, while the larger was built for 20.
Director of Extended Campus Ronda Peer said, “We were turning students away because of the limited space.”
The new space provides five more classrooms along with a separate library area. Extended student services will also be made possible. The financial aid office and the Student Success program will send representatives over once a week to council students, and Peer will be in Cody on a more regular basis to help attend to student issues.
The Cody campus offers general education classes needed to meet degree requirements. Courses in computing and social sciences are also provided.
“We hope to do more specialized classes to serve the group in Cody,” explained Peer. Generally these will be special interest classes, such as writing, available to people who already have a degree and wish to further their education in selected areas.
An open house will be held on March 23 from 4 to 6 p.m. It will include a ribbon cutting ceremony, refreshments and a tour of the new extended Northwest College Cody Campus.

Northwest College started classes this semester in the newly-remodeled facilities at the Cody Center in the Marathon building in Cody owned by Park County. The new leased facility will offer more classrooms, a computer lab and library. Remodeling took place last fall in preparation for the move.
