Friday, Dec. 2 through Sunday, Dec. 4, the Powell Valley Chamber of Commerce will hold its 19th annual Country Christmas celebration. This year’s theme will be an old-fashioned Christmas.

According to Sharon Earhart, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce, the planned events include a holiday gift and craft bazaar at the Commons on Bent Street on Friday and Saturday. A remembrance walk from the city tree on Absaroka Street to Plaza Diane at second and Bent followed by the torchlight sing.

The torchlight sing will be led by Northwest College music instructor Mike Masterson. He will be joined by members of the college choir and other members of the music department. “A good way of getting the community to do anything together is by singing,” said Masterson of the torchlight sing.

The walk will start at 5:30 p.m. Friday with the torchlight sing to follow at 6 p.m.

The events for Saturday include Santa at the Commons and the Country Lighted Christmas Parade. Santa will be at the Commons from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The parade will start at 6 p.m. and run the length of Bent Street from Park Street to Third Street.

As part of the parade, members of the NWC music department will be performing on the Shoshone First Bank float, said Masterson.

In addition to the music department, the Block and Bridle club will also be taking part in the parade, according to Bruce Nisley, the club’s adviser.

As of Monday the club hadn’t finalized its float design, but Nisley said they should have it finalized soon. “I’m interested to see what they do,” said Nisley. “They always amaze me.”

The only event scheduled for Sunday is the Tour of Homes. This is a self-guided tour that features six homes decorated for the holidays, said Earhart. Tickets are $6 and can be picked up at the chamber.
