The year 2006 subjected us to several bad songs
Music review by Carrie Sanderson

For every great song released each year, hundreds of songs don’t quite have what it takes to make the cut. Last week, I created my very own top five list for 2006.
This week I did a 180 and formed my worst five songs of 2006 list. These are the songs that artists should have never even thought about subjecting their fans to.
Coming in fifth place is Justin Timberlake’s “SexyBack.” This song is horrible on so many levels. How conceited does someone have to be to say that they are the one bringing “sexy back?” Another turn-off for me was his voice. Someone explain to me how a grown man can hit those high notes like he does, that’s just not natural. The first time I heard this song I honestly thought it was sung by a woman.
My number four worst song of the year is “Life is a Highway” by Rascal Flatts. The song is a remake and personally, I think they butchered it. Maybe that’s because I am a huge Chris LeDoux fan, which makes me biased in a sense. Either way, the way that Rascal Flatts sings this song is just plain annoying. Their lead singer’s voice is just not cut out to sing this song. It is one of the few Rascal Flatts songs that I flat-out refuse to listen to.
The third worst song of 2006 is “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley. Honestly, could they think of nothing better to sing about than going crazy? The tune of the song is catchy, I’ll admit, but the lyrics throw off the entire song. The lyrics make no sense and just repeat the same general statement over and over.
Runner-up for worst song of the year is Gwen Stefani’s “Wind it Up.” In the course of the song, Gwen does all the things that today’s artists usually don’t do, at least not all in the same song. She yodels, raps, chants and sings. Those elements put together create an extremely awkward song.
First place for worst song of 2006 goes to Fergie for her provocative single “Fergalicious.” Why must almost every hit song have some sexual innuendo contained in it? Sex seems to be the key element to a hit song these days, but I’m not sold on the idea. I think it is extremely disrespectful and inappropriate to say some of the things artists say in songs. “Fergalicious” is very bad about this. Every word in the song is something overly provocative.
Well, there they are, the worst five songs of 2006 according to me. Obviously everyone has their own ideas about which songs are horrible and which songs are great. It just depends on the person’s taste.
