Pop star Michelle Branch has already had an amazing solo career. Still, she parted from that success and joined long-time friend and former backup singer Jessica Harp to form the country duo The Wreckers.
Their first album, Stand Still, Look Pretty was released on May 23. So far, the album has sold 464,476 copies and peaked at number four on the Billboard Country Album Charts. The singles that have been released so far are “The Good Kind,” “Leave the Pieces” and “My Oh My.” “Leave the Pieces” has had the most success and shot the duo to stardom in the country music scene. It peaked at number one on the Billboard Country Charts. Their next major single “My Oh My” was released recently and reached the number 19 position on the Billboard Country Charts so far. Released for promotional reasons, “The Good Kind” never reached the charts. The Wreckers have been featured numerous times on the CW’s hit show One Tree Hill, which undoubtedly added to their success.
My favorite song on Stand Still, Look Pretty is “The Good Kind.” It is a very catchy song and has a lot of meaning packed into a couple minutes.
The song is basically about being played by a boyfriend. It is also about telling the guy that he treated you badly and that what he did was wrong. It says “Do you want to run away together? I would say that was your best line ever. Too bad I fell for it.” I think those lyrics say exactly what the song is about. Another one of my favorites is “One More Girl.” This song is about standing up for yourself and saying that you are more than just another girl. You are your own person. This song is very bitter about the subject, but the words are put very well.
Stand Still, Look Pretty is a great album. It is very country and doesn’t contain much of a trace of Branch’s pop roots. Nonetheless, it would be a great addition to your album collection.
