Look at the big picture

- I know for a fact that everyone who reads this today has made a mistake. Somewhere in the short time that many of us have been on this earth, a rule has been broken, a lie has been told. It happens everyday.
The unfortunate thing about making mistakes is they cannot be taken back. No matter how much you wish and beg and pray, you cannot turn back time. The consequences of the choices you make will stick with you for the rest of your life. Some choices are life changing and some are harmless at best.
The good thing about mistakes is there is always a lesson to be learned. After hitting rock bottom, the only way to go is up. I figure no matter what happens, there is always someone, somewhere who has had a worse day than you. What makes mistakes a negative part of life is when nothing is gained or learned by the person who made the mistake.
There are lessons in everything we do, the people we meet, the places we go. However, I believe screwing up, in particular, has a certain effect on motivation. For most people, you can only screw up so many times before you can’t take it anymore.
Isaac Newton concluded that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. I believe this to be true not only in the realm of physics, but also life in general. Karma has a way of popping up in the long run.
Try to remember that everyone makes mistakes. I have yet to meet someone who hasn’t stumbled off the path once or twice, including myself. I have found that forgiving people is easy when you look at the big picture. It would be nice to get a break in return for giving one.
Mahatma Gandhi once said, “Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.” Life would be pretty fruitless without anything to humble our giant egos. It would take away from all the fun of building your ego back up until your next big goof.
