The rock band Crossfade made a name for themselves with their self-titled debut album, but completely blew that name with the disgrace that is Falling Away.
The band’s first album produced many hits for Crossfade, and led them to fame with songs such as “Cold,” “Colors” and “So Far Away.” The first single released from their newest album, “Invincible,” is the only high point on the entire new album. Falling Away’s lyrics are confusing, the music is very unorganized and awkward and the vocals don’t even begin to compare to those on their first album. None of the songs seem to have any real, relatable meaning.
Sadly, I bought Falling Away. It was one of my biggest mistakes when it comes to album choice. I bought the album for one song, “Invincible,” which in retrospect wasn’t a very good idea. “Invincible” is only the fourth song on the album, but I couldn’t even make it through the first three songs to get to that one. It was nearly physically painful.
One thing that I don’t quite understand is how a group that was so great and showed so much talent and skill on their first attempt, could become so awful in just a matter of years with no major changes to the band’s makeup. Maybe the first album was just a fluke. I saw Crossfade in concert last summer and their performance was almost as bad as their new album. When they played their new songs, they received even less of a reaction than they did when they played their old songs.
If it isn’t obvious already, I would definitely not recommend Falling Away to anyone, unless they are an avid Crossfade fanatic who absolutely loves anything the band does.
In which case, I am sorry Crossfade subjected you, and anyone you play this album around, to Falling Away.
