Seventh Heaven fans may either be greatly disappointed or very pleased with the new season, which began Monday, Sept. 25.
It has been a bumpy ride for all of the characters on this dearly-loved show. The networks announced in the spring that Seventh Heaven was to end its final season in May of 2006, but the new CW surprised audiences by bringing it back for another round.
The season began with a devastated Lucy (Beverly Mitchell). It wasn’t apparent what had happened to make her so angry but the whole family was trying to help her.
She was constantly irritated and pushing everyone and the help they were offering away. If her husband Kevin (George Stults) offered to do something for her, she thought he had an ulterior motive.
Her parents Eric and Annie ( Stephen Collins and Catherine Hicks) tried to give her their support, but she shoved it away.
The only ones she seemed not to be angry with were her twin brothers, Sam and David (Nikolas and Lorenzo Brino).
Meanwhile, Martin Brewer (Tyler Hoechlin) is trying to get Sandy Jameson (Hailey Duff) to marry him because he wants to create a family for their son.
Ruthie (Mackenzie Rosman) is spending her summer in Scotland with a group from her school. Matt (Barry Watson) and his wife Sarah (Sarah Danielle Madison) have had twins. Mary (Jessica Biel) and her husband Carlos (Carlos Ponce) have also had twins.
Lucy, still not feeling any better, keeps harping at Kevin to get the people next door to turn their music down and she goes to her father and asks if she can give the sermon that Sunday.
He doesn’t believe that she is ready for it but she begs him to let her do it and he finally gives in. She then proceeds to have a massive breakdown at the pulpit.
Once she is home again she takes care of herself and she becomes slightly happier. That night the music is gone, so she asks Kevin to go next door and ask the neighbors to play their music.
When he does go over, special guest star Jewel answers the door. She sings so that the baby can fall asleep. It is never mentioned in the premiere episode what has made Lucy upset, but it is inferred that she has miscarried the twins she was carrying.
This season, for a spur-of-the-moment decision, has started out well and is giving fans something to look forward to instead of being saddened by the loss of such a show.
