Gilmore Girls debut heartbreaking

On Tuesday Sept. 26, the premiere episode of Gilmore Girls aired on the new CW causing fans once again to be slightly angry and heartbroken.
Last season ended with one heck of a cliffhanger. Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) and Luke Danes (Scott Patterson) had put off their wedding for weeks and weeks.
Christopher Hayden (David Sutcliffe) showed up at Friday night dinner, a Gilmore tradition, because Lorelai’s mother Emily (Kelly Bishop) wanted to set him up with a good friend of hers.
Unfortunately it all went slightly downhill from there. The friend, it turns out, was a therapist and Lorelai somehow ended up in the back of her car talking with her. She then found Luke and gave him an ultimatum. She wanted them to run away and get married right then but it was too impulsive for Luke.
Lorelai, distraught, goes to Christopher’s house for comfort. Rory (Alexis Bledel) and Logan’s (Matt Czuchry) relationship is put to the test as he leaves for a year in London. She has a confrontation with Mr. Huntzberger, Logan’s father, accusing him of sending Logan to London to get him away from her.
This dynamic, and very dramatic, episode ends with Lorelai in bed with Christopher and the audience wondering what in the world was going to happen next.
This season began the same way the last season ended, with Lorelai and Christopher in bed together. Rory wakes up to find a gift from Logan awaiting her. She opens it and sees that it is a miniature rocket and is slightly confused. Lorelai leaves Christopher’s house and goes home, where Rory is, having come back for the summer. She tells Rory that she and Luke are done but she refuses to talk about it.
They then decided that instead of talking, they can play some sort of sport. They choose racquetball. It doesn’t work out so well, and Rory ends up spending the whole day trying to find out what the rocket means. At first she thinks it may mean that Logan wants space but in the end it turns out that he thinks what he and Rory have is true love. After a much needed sleep, she wakes to Luke showing up in her driveway. He says that he has thought about it and he wants to get married and he has come way over prepared. Lorelai then drops the bomb, telling him it’s over because she slept with Christopher. He drives away, leaving Lorelai standing on the porch with tears in her eyes.
Thus, the first episode of the new season ends on a sour note. Though Logan and Rory’s relationship seems to be taking off, Luke and Lorelai may not be able to repair the damage and that may be one storyline that dramatically affects the plot of this beloved show. Fans are left to hope that there may be a chance to redeem what was lost between the two of them and that each week will bring an episode better than the last.
