Known for their tell-it-like-it-is nature, rock band Three Days Grace continued to hold nothing back in it’s second album One-X. It is the follow-up to the self-titled debut album that made them well-known.
The first single from One-X, “Animal I Have Become” has been burning up the rock charts, and is currently ranked number three and peaked at number one. Many of the songs included on this album deal with the effects of a break-up. This topic is dealt with very matter-of-factly, and is easy to relate to no matter who you are.
One-X is the second album from Three Days Grace. Their first album produced three major hits including “Home,” “I Hate Everything About You” and “Just Like You.” These songs dealt more with being yourself, not hiding the real you and dealing with family and friends who don’t necessarily approve.
Three Days Grace is an alternative metal band, and they keep the screaming to a minimum. I used to hate all forms of rock music, but my boyfriend turned me on to it. It took me a while to warm-up to the idea of listening to any kind of rock music, but I finally did. One-X was the first rock album I bought. It was a good first choice because they aren’t a really hard-core type of rock band. The random screaming and pointless obscenity is kept to a minimum.
My favorite song off of One-X is “Over and Over.” It is about going back to a bad relationship knowing that nothing has changed, but blindly hoping it has. Another of my favorites is “Gone Forever.” It’s another song about a break-up, but this one is about dealing with the break-up. It says, “I feel so much better now that you’re gone forever. I tell myself that I don’t miss you at all. I‘m not lying, denying that I feel so much better now that you‘re gone forever.” Who hasn’t felt like that? Another of my favorites is “Riot,” which is the heaviest song on the album. It is about being fed up with your life and people telling you what to do and what to be, and finally deciding to take charge and live your life the way that you want to live it.
Three Days Grace’s music is good to listen to when you are angry or upset, or anytime for that matter. They are breaking barriers and moving up the charts as well. The success of One-X is definitely deserved.
