The semester has started and after just a few weeks it is looking like it will be a good one. Enrollment at the college is up. Simpson Hall is finally complete and filled with students. With the success of Simpson Hall, Northwest College is seeking funding for a 50,000 square foot building to expand workforce development, but it’s not all peaches and cream.
Over the summer NWC professor Doug Nelson passed away while on an archaeological dig in Israel. Nelson taught at NWC for many years and was more than a teacher. To many of his students he was a friend. Always available to help his students with assignments or just to chat, Nelson constantly went the extra mile. He is and will be missed.
In addition to all the happenings on campus this is also an election year. This year the Northwest Trail will strive to provide much of the information you need to make a knowledgeable choice when you go to the polls in November.
As you read the Trail this year you may notice a few changes. The biggest change you might notice is that the Trail is thicker. That’s right, this year we have moved from 12 to 16 pages, and there is a good reason for that. For the first time since its inception, the Northwest Trail is a member of the Associated Press.
This AP membership will provide two more sections to the Trail. One of the new sections will be dedicated to news around the state, and the other will be dedicated to news around the nation and world. This addition is designed to improve your reading experience and provide you the reader with the news you crave.
I will end this first of many editorials with a quote from a personal hero of mine Gordon Parks. “The guy who takes a chance, who walks the line between the known and unknown, who is unafraid of failure, will succeed.”
